Trump Supporter Arrested for Breathing ‘Forcefully’ On Anti-Trump Women

Even the crimes in 2020 are bizarre.

Saturday, a man in a Trump shirt was arrested for “forcefully exhaling” on two anti-Trump women outside President Donald Trump’s Virginia golf course.

What exactly does breathing “forcefully” mean? This. Don’t do this:

“That’s assault!”

Raymond Deskins, 61, was charged with misdemeanor assault after a citizen obtained a warrant through a county magistrate:

How A Brazilian Social Entrepreneur Will Train 2 Million Women For The Digital Economy

“Brazil needs innovation policies that include women”, says Ana Fontes, president at the Women … [+] Entrepreneurs Social Network

Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, social entrepreneur Ana Fontes has been working tirelessly to equip the hundreds of thousands of women who resort to the Women Entrepreneurs Social Network (RME, acronym in Portuguese) to understand how to navigate a fast-moving digital landscape.

With multiple initiatives led under what is the first and largest support network for female entrepreneurs and the support from companies including Google and banks such as Santander, RME currently reaches 750,000 women nationwide. The scope of the organization is now going beyond guidance on how to start and run a business and expanding into a model that includes digital literacy, content, acceleration, mentoring and capital for female entrepreneurs.

Since the emergence of the new coronavirus, RME has raised more than 40 million reais (US$ 7.3 million) to bolster key projects such as a training model that will train more than 50,000 women for the digital economy in the next 24 months. It also includes a Google-backed initiative that will choose 180 businesses led by women every three months, which will receive seed capital and mentoring.

Fontes hopes her fundraising efforts will exceed 100 million reais (US$ 18.4 million) in 2021 to broaden the organization’s reach to 2 million women countrywide: “We are the world’s only entity doing that kind of women-specific work, and we want to attract more companies with a vision that it is possible to make a huge impact through social responsibility and innovation”, she points out.

The entrepreneur is part of the W20, a UN platform that focuses on addressing issues of gender equality and women’s empowerment across the world’s 20 largest economies. She notes that companies have a critical role in promoting diversity and supporting innovation, through programs that support women to participate in a hyper-digital economy.

On the other hand, the social entrepreneur believes that the government also needs to act, in areas such as access to credit policies and inclusion of girls and women in careers related to technology. Despite her transit between decision makers in the corporate universe and her influence in the public policy debate, Fontes says that the dialogue with the Brazilian government has not been easy:

“We cannot mention the word gender in Brazil, or the need for affirmative policies to include more women in the economy and promote their development, because the current government does not believe in such things”, she notes.

“We have an open channel with the G20 in Brazil and we have been stressing the need to discuss these issues, but we have no effective policies, nor a desire for implementing them. But it is impossible to think of an innovation strategy for the country and not to include women in its design”, Fontes adds, referring to a plan to be created by an interministerial committee as part of Brazil’s National Innovation Policy, published through a presidential decree last month.

Other key points pointed out by Fontes and that need to be addressed include the lack of an integrated national environment for entrepreneurial education and a platform to generate business between large corporations and entrepreneurs.

“We were able, as RME, to serve a portion of women who want to run their businesses, but we can’t provide them with everything they need. Women’s access to credit needs to be improved, as well as the connections to the market and the innovation capital. The government has the conditions to improve that ”, she points out.

Despite these limitations, Fontes is betting on the growing focus of companies on best environmental, social and governance practices: “We can no longer, as institutions, expect that only the government will do their part and establish policies to foster innovation, inclusion and diversity.

Large companies have a role and responsibility to support the advancement of these issues, not only for society’s sake, but to accelerate change for themselves.” Fontes says she doesn’t believe in a “new normal”, but in the need to build a reinvented entrepreneurial environment in Brazil based on diversity:

“A year from now, I’d like to be able to see that the situation of female entrepreneurs in Brazil is being supported by more companies. That’s what entrepreneurship is about: it’s not a silly optimism of those who sit around, waiting for things to happen. It is a dynamic optimism.”

BLACK ENTERPRISE: What made you want to become an entrepreneur?

Tatiana: Entrepreneurship was inherited. My mother (beautician) and father (carpenter) were both entrepreneurs, so it’s all I’ve ever really known.

What would you tell your 21-year-old self?

I would tell her to be patient, party more, and that you definitely don’t need to eat out every day.

What do you want to say to the woman who doesn’t feel like she’s good enough to make it in the marketplace?

There no such thing as good enough! Your superpower is the fact that you are you, and no one can take that away from you so use it to your advantage, Sis!

Why are you so big on collaboration?

I’m big on supporting other women. It was how I was raised. I love collaborating with other women because there’s strength in numbers. Women are generally very intuitive and cross-branding goes a long way. In addition, there’s a misconception that women don’t get along, and just like other barriers, I want to break that stigma.

How can people stay connected with you outside of this interview?

I can be reached via www.LabeledBluCollections and www.LabeledBluTransportation as well as on Instagram @IamTereTatiana or Facebook, Tere Tatiana.

Guardian Angels Of Sambalpur Forest: Odisha Women Stand Against Timber Mafia, Poachers

A group of women of the Gariakhaman village in Odisha’s Sambalpur district has come forward and taken the initiative of protecting the Landakote reserve forest from the timber mafia and poachers.

Due to the initiative, the felling of trees and forest fires have now become a thing of the past, and the forest which was once considered to be degraded has begin to regenerate and regain its greenery.

The entry of an outsider in the forest is banned unless and until they are allowed by the protectors of Landakote, reported The New Indian Express.

The initiative started last year when the Forest department took 15 women of the Gariakhaman village and formed an all-women Vana Sukrakhya Samiti (VSS) under the Ama Jungle Yojana of the state government.

The purpose was to protect the forest and restore an area of about 50 hectares (ha) of the forest land.

The women holding lathis in their hands patrol the forest from 7am to 5pm every day and there has been no break in this tradition of the Thengapalli region.

“Gariakhaman is home to 32 families and men of the village either migrate outside the district to work or are into agriculture. Since the village is located on hilly terrain, patrolling was not regular. These factors made things easier for the poachers and timber mafia. Protecting the forest that provides us minor produce became paramount and it prompted us to come forward to work with the government,” said Sarojini Samartha, vice-president of Gariakhaman VSS

The women sometimes join the forest officials in night patrolling as well.

The women also regularly clean dry leaves from the entire forest stretch which prevents forest fire.

Girishchandrapur Range Officer Susanta Bandha said, “Since last year, there has been no fire mishap in the jungle.”

The initiative has helped the women to gain financial freedom as the department pays them a wage of around ₹298 per day.

Pradipta Kumar Sahu, Rairakhol DFO said efforts are being made so that more villagers can join which particularly includes women in the forest protection and management and formation of SHGs.

Violence against women on the increase in Florence

“Violence against women is a real problem as shown in the figures released by the Florentine association Artemisia,” explained Benedetta Albanese, city councillor for equal opportunities, at a city council meeting. “Approximately 900 women turned to Artemisia for help between January and October, 88 of whom during the first lockdown alone. After an initial worrying silence, the association received an average of 2.4 phone calls a day.”

On November 25, on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, a new online space called PortaleDonne will be launched by the City of Florence to provide all necessary information to women enduring violence.

The International Festival of Cinema and Women begins online on November 25, with a webinar on the issue of violence against women (in Italian) at 11am, followed by screenings of Xiana do Teixeiro’s Tódallas mulleres que coñezo; Tommaso Santi’s Lontano da Qui, winner of the Premio Gilda Antiviolenza; Silvia Lelli’s Histoire d’H; Malgorzata Szumowska’s Corpi; and Hab, by Nòra Lakos, winner Premio Gilda Film. All the films will be shown on Più Compagnia (tickets start at 9.90 euro).

La Nazione and related newspapers will be holding three online live talks (in Italian) to change the dialogue surrounding women. Luisa Bagnoli, founder and president of Beyond International and a member of the Women for a New Renaissance government advisory taskforce, will speak with leading figures in the business, cultural, sports and social spheres in Italy. The talks begin at 5pm on quotidiano.net, La Nazione’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.

Women beat the trend to earn the big bucks | Echo

Women have campaigned for years to see the gender pay gap in the UK cut and new Government figures show women in Southend earn £11.58 per hour –three per cent more than men.

And with the likes of Adventure Island being honoured by the Queen for helping “superwoman” employees progress and Suzanne Gloyne taking a leading role in the future of the town centre – there is no shortage of woman in top roles.

Ms Gloyne, manager of Southend Business Improvement District, said: “We have a wide range of businesses in all sectors operating in the area and so it’s good to see that there are more possibilities for everyone to have the same opportunities and same pay in our town.

Pleased – Jacqui Dallimore

“We must strive to continue to reduce the gap as having a diverse range of people at all levels within a company can only be a good thing for our community.”

Another high flyer is Jacqui Dallimore – managing director of the Roslin Beach Hotel in Thorpe Bay – which has announced plans for a major expansion.

She added: “I am delighted to hear that women in Southend have closed the gender pay gap and bucked the trend from the rest of the country.

Opportunities – Suzanne Gloyne

“Women will always play an integral part in industries. I believe that there should always be pay parity for the same job which is something we embrace.

“I cannot understand why we would undervalue women and the men in this world should remember one day that may be their wife or daughter being undervalued.”

Last month Adventure Island was honoured at the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise for promoting opportunity through social mobility.

Kennedy Cutting, 25, HR acting assistant manager, said: “What a journey it has been since I joined. I’m incredibly thankful for Stockvale for helping me get here.”

Qatar airport police officers charged over invasive searches of women

Some of the women were Australian and the incident sparked a major diplomatic row, with the Australian government expressing outrage at the incident and demanding Qatar investigate.
